HiretheWorld expects that all designers follow our Designer Code of Conduct, based on Respect, Fairness, and Professionalism. Therefore, we expect our designers to always produce original work.
Similarities between designs are to be expected when a contest holder describes what he/she wants. Obvious concepts will be explored by everyone, but all designers competing must add their own unique and creative implementations.
Here are some examples that may help you understand what a unique concept is versus an obvious concept.
Example 1: The Contest Holder sells custom windows. It’s ok to have a window in the logo (obvious concept), but it’s expected that the window shapes, sizes, positioning, colours, style be unique with every designer (unique concept).
Example 2: The Contest Holder wants a typographic logo and rates and comments on another design saying they like the italicized font. It’s ok to take that feedback and italicize your font (obvious concept), but the font should be different from designer to designer, include different sizes, colours, etc.(unique concept).
Example 3: The Contest Holder is a yoga instructor and requests a lotus flower. It’s ok to have the lotus flower in your design (obvious concept) but the flower should be different for each designer. If, for example, a designer decides to add a silhouette of a person in a yoga position and the Contest Holder rates this highly, it is NOT ok for other designers to start adding silhouetted people doing yoga. That is a unique concept and can only be further explored by the designer who first created it.
Please note: If a contest holder has publicly notified the participants to use a certain design concept then it is then considered to be a basic/common concept and all participants are free to explore that concept with unique interpretations of that common concept.
We ask that at all times, designers please be respectful, fair, and professional. If you wish to report a copied design, please do so appropriately, and do not talk down to other designers publicly OR privately. This is referred to as defamation and will result in serious consequences including expulsion from HiretheWorld. Instead, focus your energies on creating winning designs.
Failure to follow HiretheWorld’s code of conduct, originality policy, or copyright violation procedures may result in immediate suspension and in some cases expulsion (banned from HiretheWorld).
